The GATE Institute is seeking to appoint an Experienced Researcher, System Analyst, or Software Engineer to work in the Data Engineering Division of GATE to support the utilization of the GATE Data Platform, the Cloud technologies, the Agile methodologies for software development and DevOps practices in the strategic application domains of GATE Institute – Future Cities, Digital Healthcare, Smart Industry, and Electronic Government.
Responsibilities
- Develop new methods, models, algorithms and software for modelling, processing and analysing data on public and private clouds
- Provide professional mentoring, lead teams of software developers and support research and innovation projects on the GATE Data Platform;
- Develop capacity and build potential for working on projects utilizing DevOps practices;
- Keep up-to-date with the latest technology trends and relevant technical standards in the area of Cloud Computing and Agile Software Development;
- Scientific paper writing;
- Engage in appropriate training and development opportunities.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Experienced researcher (R2): A PhD Degree in computer science, data science, or software engineering, or a Master’s Degree in these fields plus a minimum of 4 years of industry-based relevant R&D experience;
- Established researcher (R3): A PhD Degree in computer science, data science, or software engineering, or a Master’s Degree in these fields plus a minimum of 7 years of industry-based relevant R&D experience;
- Knowledge of the models and methods for process modelling, transaction processing, sequential decision making, and decision optimization and ability to apply them to workflow automation tasks;
- Knowledge of the technologies and tools for multithreading, synchronization, containerization, orchestration and monitoring in a cloud environment (i.e., Docker, AirFlow, MLFlow, Elastic) and ability to use them;
- Experience working with both SQL and No-SQL databases;
- Experience in real-time data processing, data integration, and automation using XML, JSON, YAML, etc.
- At least 3 years of industrial experience working as a software developer, data analyst, software or data engineer;
- Proven record of projects for processing information on the cloud in both offline and real-time mode;
- Scopus-indexed publications in the area of visual information processing or data analysis;
- Proficiency in scripting in UNIX shell and JavaScript and programming in Python and Java
- Experience working under both Windows and Linux;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to be able to explain the technologies to the research and developer’s community;
- Fluency in English.
Optional
- Knowledge and skills in semantic technologies, data integration and data enrichment;
- Knowledge and skills in Big Data technologies and tools (Hadoop, SPARK)
- Past Experience in innovation, knowledge transfer and commercialization projects;
- Practical experience in working with a wide variety of constituents and stakeholders;
- Teaching in Higher Education in the area of computer and data science, software and data engineering
- Practical skills in programming using other languages such as C++, C#, R, and other;
- Ability to find ways to create value and deliver results by working both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels and of various disciplines.
