The success of AI-based systems largely depends on understanding the problems that they solve and on the quality of the data they use.
Venelin Kovatchev is a research group leader of the “Generative AI and Natural Language Processing” group at the GATE Institute. He is interested in data-centric NLP and topics such as dynamic evaluation frameworks for NLP, active learning, unit testing for NLP and AI, adversarial attacks, data augmentation and data generation.
Venelin Kovatchev received his PhD from the University of Barcelona in 2020 where he worked on natural language understanding. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Birmingham (UK) (2020-2021) and The University of Texas at Austin (US) (2021-2022). He was appointed Assistant Professor of AI and NLP at the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2023 and is still affiliated with UoB as an Honorary Assistant Professor of AI and NLP.
