GATE trains librarians to detect disinformation

A special course for detecting disinformation and media literacy will be held for the librarian’s day by the Institute “Big Data for Smart Society” (GATE) at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” at “Nikola Furnadjiev” regional library in Pazardzhik.

The Director of the GATE Institute at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”Prof. Silvia Ilieva and Borislav Bankov, Business Development Expert at the Institute, were invited to a working meeting organized by President Rumen Radev on Bulgaria’s participation in the NATO Defense Innovation Accelerator (DIANA). The meeting was held on April 19, 2022, in the Presidency of the Republic of Bulgaria.

GATE becomes a NATO test centre for new technologies

Following a successful bid with NATO’s International Secretariat, GATE is recognized to be a DIANA test centre in the field of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. Being a part of DIANA’s network, GATE is going to host innovators from across the Alliance who can bring their concepts for evaluation, verification and validation.

Sofia University continues the cooperation with DeepMind through the scholarship programme

For a third consecutive year, two DeepMind graduate scholarships will be made available in the academic year 2022/2023. They are for students wishing to pursue a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence and Information Extraction and Knowledge Discovery at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FMI) of Sofia University. These scholarships aim to attract talented Bulgarian students from groups that are currently underrepresented in AI, specifically those who identify as female or from a low-income background.

GATE starts a new project on detection of disinformation

The newly funded project TRACES has just started. Its aim is the automatic detection of TRACES of intentionally spread textual disinformation, written in Bulgarian in social media. The project tackles both intentional disinformation written by humans and such, generated via deepfake methods.
