GATE presented the new Master’s program “Big Data Technologies”, a joint initiative of the Institute and FMI at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, at an information event on August 31, 2023.

The new Master’s program “Big Data Technologies”, a joint initiative of the GATE Institute and the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Sofia University of St. Kliment Ohridski”, will be presented on August 31 at 6 p.m. in hall 325 of FMI.

Big Data for Smart Society Institute (GATE) is pleased to announce two scholarships generously funded by DeepMind that are open to applicants who are female or underprivileged and wishing to pursue a Master’s degree in the “Artificial Intelligence”, “Information Extraction and Knowledge Discovery” and “Big Data Technologies” Master’s programmes at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FMI) of Sofia University.

The temperature in the central parts of Sofia is constantly rising, according to data from recent years, analyzed by GATE Institute. This is related to the appearance of the so-called “heat islands”. The main factors for their manifestation include heat, generated by human activity, increased energy consumption, traffic, overbuilding, reduction of green areas and parks, lack of water bodies and resettlement. The local climate and topography also significantly influence the appearance of the phenomenon.

The Institute „Big data for Smart Society“ (GATE) and the Centre of Competence “Quantum Communication, Intelligent Security Systems and Risk Management” (Quasar)” (Quasar) signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance and consolidate their partnership. The two organisations will exchange knowledge, experience and good practices as well as information and data from national and international research and studies related to activities of common interest, participation in training sessions, seminars, etc.

In the period July 10-12, 2023, a national seminar on “Strategic forecasting in the public sector” was held in the city of Troyan. The event brought together leading experts from the state administration engaged in strategic forecasting and planning. It was attended by representatives of the Council of Ministers, various ministries and departments, state agencies, as well as experts from the units managing the structural funds of the European Union. Various problems related to strategic planning and forecasting were discussed, and the event took place in an interactive form, with the active involvement of all participants.
